Abstract

The present study was formulated with the following objectives To assess the free radical scavenging activity of various extracts of the leaves and the rhizomes of C amada Roxb and the antioxidant modulating activity of the extracts using oxidatively stressed precisioncut goat liver slices To evaluate the cytotoxic activity induced by the extracts in eukaryotic model organism yeast To evaluate the anticancer potential of the extracts using breast cancer cell lines To determine the phytochemical constituents present in the leaves and the rhizomes of C amada The results of the present study revealed that the methanolic extract of both the leaves and the rhizomes of C amada exhibited antioxidant and anticancer activity against breast cancer cell lines The extracts showed differential effect in inhibiting the growth of cancerous cells compared to noncancerous cells which is the salient finding of the present study Hence the components present in these extracts can be supplemented with the newlinestandard chemotherapeutics used for treatment which makes the cancer cells more newlinesusceptible while rendering protection to the normal cells newline%%%
