Bibliography: leaves 143-145. This thesis is aimed at engineers as problem solvers operating within an automotive environment that is governed by Japanese management practises. The reason for this specific focus is that the engineer in this environment plays a particularly important role in the establishment and maintenance of production with regards to quality, cost and delivery performance. It is therfore imperative that the engineer fully understands the Japanese management system and the role that he has to play.
