Aircraft antennas for MF and HF Communications have been a problem throughout aeronautical development. In late years, VHF for short range communication has considerably relieved the lower band use, but an important requirement still remains for long range HF communication, and for MF in special areas. Military flying places more stringent demands upon band use than does civil flying, because more frequencies are required for liaison and command Communications, to coordinate large numbers of aircraft on different missions from different bases.
