In considering the studies which have been made of unmarried mothers, it is noteworthy that the emphasis has been primarly in the field of child welfare. Relatively few studies have been undertaken of those unmarried mothers who because of either individual problems of adjustment, or their inability to plan adequately for their children have sought psychiatric help.
