Abstract

"Considerable attention has been given the problem of providing low load density rural territory with electric service. In order that such supply may be economically justifiable, distribution system construction and operating costs must be considerably lower than that prevailing in urban or other territory having better load factors. It is the distribution engineer's problem to design, construct, operate and maintain a distribution system to furnish adequate and economical electric service to this low load density rural territory. In general, the rural line involves not only the circuit itself, but also the station equipment including transformers and protective devices for both the line and transformers" – Introduction, p. 1.
