1. Mesityl urea has been prepared and used for the successful preparation of mesityl-semicarbazide. 2. A number of aldehydes and ketones have been characterised with mesityl-semicarbozide. 3. An examination has been made of the effect of basicity of certain primary amines on their reactivity with nitrourea. 4. A mechanism for the reaction of mesityl urea with hydrazine hydrate has been proposed and discussed.
