Abstract

Interest in the critical temperature phenomena was stimulated in this laboratory some ten years ago when Maass and Sutherland (60), in an investigation of the influence of molecular forces and orientation upon reaction velocity, made an interesting observation. They found that the velocity coefficient of the reaction between propylene and hydrogen chloride in the liquid state increased with rise in temperature but suddenly dropped off to zero at the critical temperature of the mixture.
