Abstract

The broad area to which this thesis relates is that in which disjunctive reaction time (DRT) techniques are used in the investigation of decision processes. The main issue examined is the relative importance of stimulus versus response factors in determining DRT performance. In investigating this question experimentally, use is made of a conditional disjunctive reaction time (CDRT) task. The disjunctive nature of the task refers to the fact that the subject (S) must make two decisions: (i) which stimulus alternative was presented, and (ii) which response alternative is appropriate to that stimulus alternative.
