The Fusarium wilt disease of tomato caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. lycopersici (Sacc.) Snyder and Hansen (F. lycopersici) was first noted in the Channel Islands a few years before 1895 (Walker, 1950). Today, the disease is as widespread as its host, Lycopersicon esculentum Mill. Economic losses due to this disease throughout the world amount to several millions of dollars every year.
