Abstract

The scan mirror application in satellite mechanism requires accurate and precise position control actuators In such aerospace applications weight of the system is of greater importance than the simplicity in configuration Very often the Brushed DC motors are replaced with the Brushless motors in order to increase the life of the motor and to reduce the maintenance cost and thereby time Normally Brushless DC motor has a permanent magnet rotor and armature stator with electronic commutation circuitry with rotor position sensors Though the brushless motor possesses lot of advantages in terms of performance size and weight than its counterpart none can deny the complexity involved in the building up of power electronic commutation circuitry for driving the motor The BLDC motors are also with sensorless commutation which is of higher complexity Hence the curiosity to implement a simple configuration of motor has been conceived Moreover as there have not been much literature and research publications in the construction and design of frameless Limited Angle BrushLess Torque LABLT motor and its control the need and interest for development has led to the present study Compared to Brushless DC motor and Brushed DC motor the proposed LABLT motor is of simple in construction and is lesser in weight as the commutation circuit and the complex control mechanism are eliminated newline appendix p123-126, reference p127-135.
