markdownabstractMy central research question is: __How do the limits and possibilities for democratic land institutions play out in Myanmars regime transition with multiple ethnic groups in the era of a global land rush?__ Going beyond the question of land institutions, its larger theoretical contribution is concerned with whether and how a nascent democracy and property-based capitalism can co-exist, and how the three interlinked processes shape this relationship.
