Designing Through Dance: An artistic exploration of Hospitality Interiors

Dance has an innate communication that transcends verbal speech for a universal understanding. Movement can express emotion, social issues and even tell stories. This Senior Capstone Hospitality project focuses on the relationship between expressive movement through dance and the built environment to create an interior that is both comfortable for and inspiring to an international group of users. Cambre showcases how the art of design and dance can seamlessly be integrated due to inherent similarities. These were uncovered through personal exploration of dance form and technique. Cambre highlights movement, both in building form and circulation, to provide interesting, dynamic spaces for guests of this luxury, boutique hotel. Custom designed elements become the feature of the hotel's design and Cambre's brand identity. They begin on the exterior envelope and dance throughout the interior in various interpretations. These elements tie into the existing building which also has a historical adaptive reuse focus to preserve a significant amount of the original architecture. Cambre's sustainable sensibility aids in providing its one-of-a-kind hotel experience and character that appeals to an international audience. ( en )
