This report presents the design, construction details, theory of' operation and test results of' a 1500VA, 24Vdc - 240Vac inverter. The design chosen is a centre tapped load inverter because of simplicity and low cost and low conduction losses all due to the low number of' swtching devices in each current path. It is a driven inverter, giving it the advantages of good frequency stability, and load independance. MOSFETS were chosen as the power switching devices because of their ease of paralelling, and simple drive circuitry. Initial testing has shown that the inverter performs as expected. The eff'iciency at full load is 84%, the output is +3% of 240V.
