Synthesis, Surface Immobilization and Characterization of Metal Complexes for Olefin Metathesis

Triethoxysilyl-functionalized N-heterocyclic carbene ligands were synthesized to prepare 2nd generation Ru olefin metathesis catalysts. These complexes were grafted onto silica nanoparticles and their catalytic activity was modulated by redox-responsive polyvinylferrocene polymers. Chemical oxidation method was used for immobilized polymers to deactivate the surface attached Ru catalyst in ROMP reactions of norbornene. Grubbs Hoveyda 2nd generation type complex was immobilized on mesoporous channels of silica films supported on indium tin oxide (ITO), for transport control of ferrocene-norbornene derivative monomer and spiropyran-norbornene derivative monomer, into the channels for the application in ROMP reactions. [(NHC)AuCl] type complex bearing –NH2 groups was synthesized and immobilized on crystalline nanocellulose (CNC) and polymer modified paper, for the application in hydration reactions of alkynes.
