This master thesis presents a study of Alvin Lucier's Sound Art between 1965 and 1978. It gives a perspective on the development of sound art in the historical period after the advent of the tape recorder, the period during the experimentation with analog and digital cybernetic technology, and before digital technology became "new media". It particularly deals with how we can see these changes in the work of Alvin Lucier, and what this can tell us about new ways to understand body, cognition and subjectivity.
