This study deals with syntactic and functional aspects in declarative clauses in present-day English where the subject follows the verb. The material is drawn from 1800 pages of written English. First the clauses are subject to a comprehensive syntactic classification followed by an analysis of their information structure. The point of departure for this analysis is the theory of FSP originating in the Praag-school of linguists.
