Abstract

"The Practice of Pyritic Smelting is a comparatively new method. It has made possible the extraction of metals from very low grade ores economically. In fact, the direct smelting of sulphide ores of any sort is a very modern metallurgy. This method is extensively used in the United States and British Columbia and will prove to be very valuable in the future development of other regions. Pyritic smelting may be considered as the oxidizing smelting of pyritic ores in a blast furnace with the view to producing matte which collects the values. A short discussion of copper smelting in general, and especially pyritic smelting, will be necessary in order to make this paper of value" – Introduction, p. 1.
