Abstract

In undertaking a study of the case work process involved in helping the child to participate in his move in to an adoption home, the writer hopes to be able to clarify her own thinking and philosophy concerning this phase of adoption. It will also be a means of evaluating the skill and technique which she has been able to develop in this process. An attempt will be made t o bring out many of the beliefs and convictions, concerning a child's capacities, growth and development, which the writer feels are basic to a social worker, if she is to sustain her role as a helping person in the placement process. These have been formulated from the writings of many of the outstanding child psychologists, psychiatrists and social workers in the child welfare field. To what extent the writer has been able to integrate these and actually utilize them in her own field work practice will be evident in the case studies presented. [...]
