"Meremec [sic] Springs, the property of T. M. James, is located in the southeast quarter of section one, township thirty seven north, range six, west of fifth principal meridian in Phelps County, Missouri, and is about six miles southeast of St. James, Missouri. Within the last few years it has come into prominence as a probable source of the water supply for the City of St. Louis and its suburbs. As no acurate [sic] and extensive knowledge was available on the subject it was deemed a suitable subject for thesis work" – p. [1].
