Abstract
One of the most characteristic of trends in modern civilization has been the continued concentration of population in urban communities. All of the social sciences are concerned in their subject matter with this development, although some, such as demography, deal with it more directly than others. Many important social theories are attempts to explain the change in the mode of men’s relationships, occasioned by the wide diffusion of forms of thought and conduct generated by the processes of city life.
