Abstract

"In many of the pine regions of the South, the operation of saw mills gives rise to immense quantities of waste products, such as slabs and sawdust. The sawdust especially, is of no practical value, accumulating in vast amounts; and, being very difficult to burn or otherwise dispose of, becomes a nuisance around the camp. The object of this thesis is to devise some means of utilizing the sawdust by recovering such constituents as might be of commercial importance " – page 1.
