Abstract

The resurgence of country club construction in recent years along with the gradual obsolesence of existing clubhouse facilities throughout the country has brought the problem of efficient and economical clubhouse design into sharp focus. Not since the late twenties have so many new private clubs been formed and existing clubs been forced, because of changing social and economic conditions, to assess the adequacy and efficiency of their building plants. In addition, the number of municipal and semi-private free golf courses has been steadily on the increase, creating a demand for planning and building criteria for adequate minimum clubhouse accommodations. The increased income of the persons living in the McKinney area has created a great demand for a small country club to replace the obsolete one. It must contain facilities for the activities of the members such as a bar, pro shop, golf course, locker rooms, general game room, and a card area for bridge. The increased amount of leisure time due to. labor saving devices and increased hours away from work result in the need for more recreation and social facilities. The golf course and the facilities for it will be one of the most heavily used facilities of the club, so there has been particular consideration given to these.
