Abstract

"The methods and systems suggested for the use of the petroleum geologist in the following manuscript are intended not only as subject matter for a thesis but also, I sincerely wish, that they may be of some use and help to those of The Missouri School of Mines who are planning to take up petroleum geology as a profession, but have not yet had the opportunity to study the practical or field end of this work ... This article is by no means intended as a text; the principal object being, as previously stated, to offer a few systems, methods, and practical pointers which may help the beginner to develop more rapidly into a valuable professional. those theories or portions of theories stated here are known to the student of geology; and my purpose in stating them has been to show more clearly why these methods and systems are the logical and efficient ways of carrying on the work" – Introduction, Pages 3-4.
