This paper seeks to explore and understand the reasons behind why and when State government control switches between parties and will create a multiple linear regression to examine the circumstances behind these changes. This paper focuses on four main independent variables, household median income, the unemployment rate, the percent change of income growth from the preceding period, and the suicide rate. The results show that the suicide rate, income growth and the unemployment rate are significant and correlated with state political control.
