Abstract

Sleep deprivation in the fire and emergency services (FES) signifies one of the largest underrepresented threats to the well-being of both its members and the citizens with which they serve. Alarming new studies, focused on the effects of first responder fatigue, have uncovered numerous risks associated with long shift hours, which are linked to a significantly increased risk of health specific hazards and diminished performance.
