The purpose of this study was to examine the effects sugary drink consumption, place of residence, age, race/ethnicity, and gender had on obesity in adolescents aged 12-17 living in California. This study utilized data from the 2014 California Health Interview Survey. The survey had 1,052 adolescents in participation and a response rate of 37.2%. The data were analyzed using a two-way analysis of variance to test for significance among the variables sugary drink consumption, place of residence, gender, race/ethnicity, age, and body mass index.Advisors/Committee Members: Krenz, Vickie (advisor), Rahman, Mohammad (committeeMember).
