Abstract

The main purpose of power system reliability assessment is to quantify the reliability level of power system, then function as a guide to system planning and operation. Due to the random behavior of wind power generation and the intermittency associated with it, this type power generation is difficult to control and predict. With the increase of wind turbine capacity and wind farm scale, it is necessary to study the how the reliability will change within the generation and transmission system with largescale wind farm integration, and comprehensively evaluate the contribution of wind power. This report is going to presenting a study of the reliability of bulk power system with large scale wind farms integration by using sequential Monte-Carlo simulation. In this project, the sequential Monte-Carlo simulation method is presented to evaluate the reliability model of generation and transmission systems with wind farms, and the reliability indices of the wind power integration in power system is also calculated. MATLAB software is used in developing the required code for the project. The study is performed on IEEE-RTS79 test system along with wind farm model. Finally, by comparing the different integration schemes of wind farms, the reliability of generation and transmission systems integrated with largescale wind farms will be evaluated. The referenced papers, books and online links are the main source of data, and there are also some empirical values used in this project. Simulations and results are presented using MATLAB.The proposed calculation method uses sequential Monte-Carlo simulation to evaluate the reliability of the bulk power system with wind farm integration. Models of generation and transmission system and the wind farm along with the different connection solutions are discussed. With the available wind farm topology, this research focuses on the program in MATLAB to evaluating the system reliability and comparing with different integration solutions.Advisors/Committee Members: Yazdani, Atousa.
