Manual de Trabajo de Servicio en Santiago de los Caballeros, Repblica Dominicana

The youth of the Dominican Republic faces many social, economic, and political challenges in their daily lives. Many do not have access to education opportunities and live in areas with high environmental contamination, which directly affects their health and lives in general. This multimedia manual provides information about my personal experience of service work in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. The manual includes general information about the area, the organization I collaborated with, cultural mergence of Dominican and Haitian cultures, and cultural differences. In addition, it shares information about the two service projects I initiated, planning/preparation, materials used, observations and reflections, problems encountered, and solution/suggestions for future work. It is my hope that the use of multimedia in addition to writing will aid in the creation of even more effective service projects in the future and be beneficial to all those interested in doing foreign service work, especially the future students of UF in the Dominican Republic service learning study abroad program.
