LID reduces impervious cover and mimics the site's predevelopment hydrology using various biogeochemical processes to treat runoff at the source. LID is a sustainable and cost-effective solution for treating water pollution in the built environment. These practices provide multiple environmental, social, and economic benefits. LID techniques reduce development costs, improve water quality and groundwater recharge, enhance the site's aesthetics, and reduce environmental impact by conserving energy, water, and biodiversity. This Capstone project evaluates three different case studies of LID techniques in the University of Florida looking at the systems' performance, their impact, and the benefits of these strategies.
