Abstract

Harry Littleton has been profoundly deaf since the age of eight. Now a vice principal ata school for the Deaf, he wakes up one morning to find his hearing has suddenlyreturned. Fearing ostracization from the Deaf community and especially from his wife,Lindsay, Harry decides to keep his newfound hearing a secret. He covertly explores theworld of sound while pretending to still be deaf. Harry meets a singer, Penny, whoencourages his passion for music. He steals time away for jam sessions and learns howto play the bass. As he struggles to keep his two identities from colliding, Harry???sfriendship with Penny grows while his marriage deteriorates when Lindsay begins tosuspect his double life. Things become even more complicated when he unwittinglyoverhears a nefarious plan to shut down his beloved school. Harry must face the musicand decide what???s worth saving: his school and his marriage, or his secret life.
