Abstract

[pt] Esta tese apresenta um estudo sobre tcnicas demodelagem numrica utilizadas na anlise da propagaoeletromagntica em formaes geofsicas comumente encontradas naperfurao de poos de petrleo. O emprego de sensoreseletromagnticos adjacentes broca de perfurao permite ainferncia dos parmetros constitutivos do solo ao redor do poo.Nos ltimos anos, os avanos da tecnologia de perfilagemeletromagntica permitiram a modelagem em tempo real do problema,possibilitando direcionar a perfurao do poo a fim de maximizar aexplorao de petrleo, gs, e outros hidrocarbonetos fsseis.Formaes geofsicas complexas so predominantes neste tipo deproblema, e geralmente so modeladas usando tcnicas numricas defora bruta como os mtodos de diferenas finitas, dos elementosfinitos ou dos volumes finitos. No entanto, estas tcnicas tm umcusto computacional relativamente alto em termos de memria e tempode processamento. O avano da tecnologia de perfilagem em temporeal requer abordagens mais eficientes. Neste trabalho nsempregamos o mtodo do casamento de modos combinado com uma sriede caractersticas positivas dos mtodos pseudoanalticosconhecidos na literatura para obter uma tcnica indita que permiteanalisar poos direcionais com estratificaes radiais elongitudinais em formaes geofsicas anisotrpicas. A tcnicaproposta permite modelar problemas ainda no explorados, mas commotivao tecnolgica iminente, como a propagao eletromagnticaao longo de poos curvados e a perfurao em camadas inclinadas emrelao ao eixo axial do poo. Ns apresentamos uma srie deresultados de validao que demonstram que a tcnica introduzidaneste trabalho pode modelar de forma acurada e eficiente sensoresde perfilagem eletromagntica usados na explorao de petrleo egs. [en] This research presents a study on numericaltechniques to model the electromagnetic propagation in geophysicalformations commonly encountered in oil well drilling. Theemployment of electromagnetic sensors surrounding the drill bitallows inferring the constitutive parameters of the soil around thewell. In recent years, advances in electromagnetic loggingtechnology have enabled the real-time modeling of this problem. Inthis way, the drilling direction can be guided in order to maximizethe exploitation of oil, gas, and other fossil hydrocarbons. Thecomplex geophysical formations that are prevalent in this type ofproblem can be effectively handled using brute-force numericaltechniques such as finite-differences, finite-elements andfinite-volumes. However, these techniques suffer from relativelyhigh cost in terms of both computer memory and CPU time. Theadvancement of real-time logging technology demands approaches thatare more efficient than purely numerical methods. In this work, weemploy the mode-matching technique combining attractive features ofthe well-known pseudo-analytical approaches to obtain a newtechnique for analyzing directional well-logging tools inanisotropic formations with bothAdvisors/Committee Members: JOSE RICARDO BERGMANN.
