Abstract
Research has demonstrated that male central characters outnumber female central characters. In a series of studies, I demonstrate that this imbalance is even more acute in the books that children read, that it is far worse for boys than for girls, and that teachers do not act to expose children to a wider range of central characters.Advisors/Committee Members: Jones, Stephanie.
