Abstract

Abstract: The use of the Nature of Science (NOS) and Socioscientific Issues (SSI) in Science Teaching can contribute to the promotion of a vision of science that includes all aspects related to its construction, from its collective and human characteristic, to those related to the contexts that influence it. Based on this understanding, this paper aims to analyze the state of knowledge on NOS and SSI themes in national journal son Science Education. The refore, we seek to map what has been published on the subject, as well as to analyze trends and approaches in research related to the subject. Our object, therefore, corresponds to national journals in the area of Teaching and Education in Sciences of qualis A1, A2, B1 and B2, and the period considered corresponds to the first publication of each journal until the year two thousand and nineteen (2019). The research is of a specific nature qualitative quantitative,in which the state of knowledge was used as a methodological path, for analysis we used discursive textual analysis, by Moraes and Galiazzi (2007). In theresults, it is evident the growth of research in the area in recent years, however it isstill shy in the Brazilian context. It can also be noted that the NOS approach and the methodological use of SSI, for the most part, are concentrated in university education, little has been discussed and/or applied in basic education. Although, studies were found that aimed to promote teacher training, this proved to beinfrequent, causing little impact on the didactic actions of these teachers. It is notorious how important NOS and SSI are in the field of Science Teaching, there is also a potential to work these approaches together, converging on the same path, that is, to develop critical thinkers, so that they need to understand how contexts influences the scientific activities.
