O futebol de mulheres na Revista Placar (2015-2020)

Abstract: The sports journalistic approach in Brazil about women's soccer is the object of study of this dissertation. The general objective is to identify and analyze how the modality and how the athletes were approached by the press between 2015 and 2020, years that involve two editions of the Women's World Cup and the Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro. It takes as an empirical object the journalistic approach of Placar magazine, the oldest and most traditional sports magazine in circulation in the country, about women's soccer in this time frame, with a total of 72 complete editions in the corpus. To understand the context, we consider the lived and social dimensions of football in Brazilian society, highlighting the history of restrictions and prohibitions of women's football in the country, seeking to understand the influence of the sports press in the construction of this football, with an approach in Placar magazine. None of the studies used the bibliographic research method, of a theoretical nature; Content Analysis advocated by Bardin (1977) and Herscovitz (2008), which is characterized by quantitative and qualitative; and the technique of data collection through the collection of journalistic materials published in Placar magazine. Seeking to map the themes of all publications collected in the quantitative stage, five analytical categories were defined to identify and analyze how this football was related in journalistic genres: gender stereotypes, comparison, championships and technical information, obstacles and retraction. The results indicate a low number of publications about women's football during the analyzed period. Championships and game schedule were practically not covered in the Scoreboard. The highlight was the November 2019 edition, which dealt with the 8th World Cup and opened space for independent media that cover the sport on a daily basis. The downside is that the magazine did not set out to continue frequently addressing this football.
